Brooklynn

Brooklynn doesn't like the lunches they make at school. She insists on bringing a lunch from home every day since they are "healthier and more filling".  Sometimes we manage to have her lunch ready to send with her when she catches the bus. Sometimes I have to drop it off when I take Mason to school. And sometimes, like today, I have to drop Mason off and then come home and make Brooks lunch to take back to her. Today I made her a grilled cheese sandwich with grapes, a boiled egg and a fruit smoothie. Sort of a strange combination, but it's what we had.

I was a little late dropping it off, so she called to see where I was. I told her that her grilled cheese sandwich was just about finished and then I would be there. She replied that she didn't like grilled cheese and could I please make her something different. I said "Nope. That's what we're having. If you'd rather not have what I've made, you're welcome to eat hot lunch." Her response was a pleasant "Okay. Grilled cheese will be fine. I'll see you in a few minutes. Love you
So pleasant.

When I got to the school, instead of being irritated that I was late, she greeted me with "Hi Mom! Thanks for bringing my lunch!" When she saw that I had brought her a smoothie she said "Is that for me?? Thanks so much!"

How nice.

She is such a grateful girl. Patient. Not demanding. Content. Able to recognize little blessings- like the fact that her mom is able to bring her a lunch when there wasn't time to make one before school.

I appreciate her attitude so much.

I love that she always ends our phone calls with "love you". I love that she always gives me a hug or tells me she loves me before she goes to school. I love that she is so appreciative of the things we do for her. I love that she is able to recognize her blessings because I know that her attitude of gratitude will spill over into other areas of her life and help her to be a happy person throughout her life.

Knowing that makes me smile.

Love you, Brooki.
